Discovering you have high cholesterol and might need statins can be a wake-up call, prompting you to scrutinize every ingredient in your meals. It's a journey that can come with a lot of confusion.

Every meal counts towards increasing cholesterol or decreasing cholesterol. So, what's the answer? Which protein is better if I'm in a hurry to lower cholesterol?

What You're About To Discover:

  • Which is better for cholesterol: beef, chicken or fish?
  • What about pork?
  • Two great alternatives

Which is better for cholesterol: beef, chicken or fish?

Before I get into this, let's ensure we're in the right mindset. If you're here it's probably because you're in a hurry to lower cholesterol before your next doctor appointment, right?

The first thing you need to understand is that... it's not your fault that you're in this situation. The Standard American Diet (SAD) and incorrect advice (even from professionals) have put us in this situation. If we want to take control, we need to change what we do moving forward.

Ok... are you ready? I'm nervous, but here we go.

This study shows there's little difference in the impact of beef, chicken, or fish on cholesterol levels. If you switch from one to another in hopes of lowering your cholesterol faster, unfortunately, you won't see much difference in your test results.

I know, it really sucks. We grew up eating and loving this stuff. I used to indulge in animal products every day, savoring cow-brain tacos, tongue tacos, tripe, foie gras, snails, octopus, and more. But, coming from a family where high cholesterol and heart disease are a common thing, I need to be very careful.

What about pork?

Well, pork sits right in the middle. Here's how various meats stack up from the 'best of the worst' to the absolute worst in terms of cholesterol impact:

  • Lamb (red meat)—best of the worst
  • Beef (red meat)
  • Pork (red meat)
  • Chicken (white meat)
  • Fish (white meat)—absolute worst

Notice anything? White meats are worse than red meats. Talk about a curveball! I used to think chicken and fish were the healthiest. This challenged what I believed for years.

I used to think chicken and fish were the healthier options, but that is NOT the case. Interesting right?

Two Great alternatives

Let's explore some heart-healthy alternatives that are entirely cholesterol-free and delicious.

  • Jackfruit: I use this instead of chicken, pulled pork, or barbacoa.
  • Tofu: I use it as a substitute for cheese in sandwiches, or when I need creaminess.

Am I 100% plant-based? No, but I'm close at 99%. I've developed a system to ensure that 99% of my meals are cholesterol-free, reserving that 1% for special occasions.
