Blog/Knowledge/What Causes Heart Disease?

If you explore FB groups discussing heart disease or cholesterol, you'll find a variety of opinions. Some people blame stress, others point to a lack of exercise, and some believe it's genetic.

Let’s find the answer together once and for all.

What You'll See Below:

  • Heart disease stats
  • What really causes heart disease
  • The heart disease process simplified

The Stats

Heart disease is the #1 serial killer of men and women in the United States. Every year, over 700,000 people die because of it. More than 40% of all deaths per year are directly attributed to heart disease.

And guess how much it’s costing us? Heart disease is costing us a whopping $111 billion a year. The statins industry alone sells $19 billion worth of statins every year worldwide!

So, what’s causing this epidemic? And how can we avoid being part of these statistics? Well, let’s go to the root of the problem. We can only do that by answering this question: what is causing our heart disease?

What Really Causes Heart Disease?

There’s so much confusion around this that it has become overwhelming. Some say it’s genetics, others say it’s stress, others confidently say it’s lack of exercise, and so on. The pharma industry has created a $19 billion industry from this confusion and overwhelm.

The good news is that it’s actually simpler than you think. There’s only ONE thing that causes heart disease. Only ONE. All the other factors people usually mention make heart disease worse, but they don’t cause it. Only ONE thing causes it.

So, what is this ONE thing? It's high cholesterol. Why? Because high cholesterol is the only thing that causes plaque to build up in your arteries. This is called atherosclerosis. Stress, lack of exercise, or even genetics don’t cause plaque buildup. Only cholesterol does.

Check this out. William Roberts is the Executive Director of the Baylor Heart and Vascular Institute and Editor-in-Chief of the American Journal of Cardiology. He studies people who have already passed away from coronary heart disease. Here’s an image you’ll see on the link:

Do you see how genetics, weight, stress, or lack of exercises are not the cause? It’s our high cholesterol lifestyle. That’s it. Everything else just makes it worse, but it’s not the cause. I hope you find this as empowering as I do. It means we have WAY more control than we thought.

The Heart Disease Process Simplified

Here's the process:

  • Eating habits since childhood are high in saturated fat.
  • Cholesterol increases because of this.
  • Atherosclerosis forms (high risk because of enough plaque buildup).
  • Statins become part of our life (but they don't cure atherosclerosis AND lifestyle remains the same).
  • First event happens: either a heart attack or stroke. And so on…

Plaque buildup is a progressive problem. It’s progressive because we start increasing our cholesterol early in our childhood. How? Through our eating habits influenced by family and culture.
