Blog/What To Eat/This spice lowers cholesterol!

I used to think I didn’t have much control over chronic diseases and that, because of my family history of high cholesterol and heart attacks, I would inevitably end up having those problems too.

When I learned nutrition alone can stop and reverse chronic diseases (like heart disease) everything changed. In countries where they don’t eat a Westernized diet, heart disease is virtually non-existent.

Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn, a former cardiac surgeon who has dedicated his life’s work to eliminating heart disease with food, says that the American diet is the deadliest diet in the world. He also says, based on his extensive experience in curing people’s heart disease naturally, that we can become immune to heart attacks with the right foods.

Introduction to Garlic Powder

When we have an excess of cholesterol, plaque builds up in our arteries to the point where they can become severely blocked.

In this meta-analysis, dozens of studies about the effects of garlic on cholesterol levels published between 1988 and 2016 were reviewed. After this investigation, scientists concluded that garlic powder can effectively lower cholesterol levels by more than 16 points. Their conclusion was: “Garlic can reduce lipid profile as well as glucose parameters and be therapeutically effective in patients suffering from cardiovascular diseases and diabetes.”

In this other study, people with coronary artery disease were separated into two groups. One group took 800mg of garlic powder tablets a day, while the other group took placebo tablets. After 3 months, those taking the garlic powder tablets increased their artery function by 50%. They concluded: “Our study results suggest that a daily intake of 800 mg dry garlic powder tablets improved brachial endothelial function…”

Would a fancier extract of this spice lower cholesterol faster?

No. Do NOT buy the fancy garlic extract supplements. They will NOT work.

In this study, 26 people around the age of 61 were given either aged garlic extract or a placebo. After 4 weeks, they realized aged garlic extract did not have any significant effect.

Their conclusion: “In this group of type 2 diabetic patients at high cardiovascular risk, 4 weeks treatment with AGE did not significantly improve endothelial function, vascular inflammation, oxidative stress or insulin resistance”.

When it comes to healing heart disease with nutrition, nothing beats mother nature. Just buy garlic powder at the grocery store and enjoy its benefits for under a penny a day.

NOTE: Even though garlic powder lowers cholesterol and slows down the progression of heart disease, it doesn’t mean that this alone will get you to optimal levels where you no longer have to worry about heart attacks or strokes. You would need to change your eating habits to accomplish this.

How I use it

In the study above where people increased artery function by 50%, they were using 800mg a day. This means they were using ¼ of a teaspoon!

So, I add ⅛ teaspoon to my lunch and ⅛ teaspoon to my dinner.
