Let’s start with this: any diet can help you lose weight. The challenge is that when we’re aiming to lose weight quickly to lower cholesterol or improve our health, we often fall into the trap of popular diets. This means that people who are immune to heart disease are eating a low-fat, no-cholesterol diet. They don’t add fats like oil or butter to their meals and they consume minimal, if any, animal products.

The rule of thumb for weight loss is: the fat you eat is the fat you wear. It’s the same with cholesterol: the fat you eat will create plaque buildup in your arteries.

How quickly can i lose weight with a whole-plant-food diet?

A whole-plant-food diet primarily consists of carbohydrates from whole plants. However, many of us have been conditioned to believe that carbs are the enemy, making it challenging to change this mindset.

In a study comparing fat loss between a low-carb diet and a low-fat diet, 19 participants followed each diet for 6 days. The results were striking:

  • With the low-carb diet, participants lost 245 grams of body fat.
  • With the low-fat diet, participants lost 463 grams of body fat—an 88.9% increase in fat loss!

Yes... this means that a low-fat diet will burn 88.9% more body fat than a low-carb diet.
