Short-grain brown rice—naturally cholesterol-free, heart-healthy, and perfect for plant-based meals or weekly prep.

Switching from white rice to brown rice can feel like a challenge—especially for kids. But what if I told you there’s a type of brown rice that makes the transition easy?

For my family, short-grain brown rice has been the game changer. It has a softer, slightly sticky texture that makes it more familiar and enjoyable—so much so that my 6-year-old didn’t even blink an eye at the switch.

I’m sharing the exact steps I take to make perfect brown rice every time, using a method that has never failed me.

  • Step-by-step instructions
  • Pro tips for success
  • Storage tips

🛒 Ingredients

(Makes ∼3 cups)

  • 1 cup short-grain brown rice
  • 2 cups water

🔥 Instructions

  • In a pot, add the rice and water (yes—before turning on the stove!)
  • Bring to a full boil over medium-high heat.
  • Immediately lower the heat to the lowest setting and cover with a lid (simmer).
  • Set a timer for 30 minutes—no stirring necessary.
  • After 30 minutes, drain any excess water and rinse the rice with cold water (optional but helps separate grains).
  • Fluff with a fork and serve!

💡 Pro tips

  • Don't let it overboil. Lower heat immediately once it reaches a rolling boil—otherwise, it can get mushy.
  • Perfect for meal prep. This rice stores beautifully in the fridge for quick meals throughout the week.
  • Works in rice cookers too! Use the same 1:2 rice-to-water ratio and follow your rice cooker's instructions.

📦 Storage Tips

  • Fridge: Store in an airtight container for up to 5-6 days.
  • Freezer: Freeze in portioned containers for up to 3 months. (Defrost overnight in the fridge or reheat straight from frozen with a splash of water.)

🔥 Now you Have a foolproof brown-rice method!

Ready to add it to your meals? Try using it in bowls, stir-fries, or even as a base for burritos.

Hi, I'm Alejandra

I stumbled onto a natural way to lower cholesterol—totally by accident.

While building a research-based weight loss program, people with high cholesterol kept asking, “Will this improve my cholesterol too?”

To our surprise, many came back just weeks later saying, “My cholesterol is already back to normal.”

That’s when it hit me: With high cholesterol running deep in my own family history, it became a no-brainer — I had to enhance the program to help more people avoid meds and finally stop worrying.
